Most people overlook the importance of resume cover letters. You need to know how to write a cover letter. The resume cover letter is extremely important especially when you are applying for a job with hundreds or thousands of other applicants. Including resume cover letters is simply proper business etiquette, and should not be left out whenever you send out a resume. Your cover letter will compliment your resume and make it stand out among those without resume cover letters, without it your resume is likely to be pushed immediately to the bottom of the pile.
Without a resume cover letter your resume may not be noticed
Your cover letters shouldn’t be more than a page long if even that long! When writting the resume cover letter you should get to the point and not fill it up with empty words. You will want to focus on what you can do for the company not what the company can do for you. Don’t forget proper paragraphs and spacing to keep the letter looking alive and more interesting to read.
Get to the point, make it short
Address the letter to a individual that will possibly be interviewing you. They are more likely to read something with their name on it then with just the companies name on it. It will also put you on a more personal level with the person interviewing you. Resume cover letters should be professional, but you will want to try and bring it to a more friendly level than your resume.
Don’t repeat everything that is stated on your resume on your cover letter, you may want to highlight one or two great thing you have accomplished, but keep it short only a summary of what your actual resume will say.
